Project Description:
A class group project where our goal was to enhance the overall effectiveness of existing informational content with 2D animation. We decided to go with the motion graphics route rather than 2D frame by frame animation to better visualize the facts and statistics described in the audio. However, we also made sure to choose a visual style that felt hand drawn and comforting and committed to maintaining that style across shots and across assets.
Preproduction
Animatics
After selecting the 2 minute portion of the audio that we were going to use, we split it up into 13 segments and gave 3-4 segments to each person. I was in charge of storyboarding and making an animatic for these 3 scenes.
Asset Creation
Backgrounds
Miscellaneous Objects
We decided to split up the assets into different types and had all o the assets of the same type (backgrounds, bee’s, flowers, fruits and vegetables) be created by the same person. This way, the look of objects of the same type were consistent even if our art style differed slightly. I was in charge of drawing all of the backgrounds for all of the scenes that needed them. We also split up the work of drawing miscellaneous objects that didn’t fit into a neat category.
Final Animation
Once we finished creating all of the assets we began animating. We decided we would each animate the same scenes that we storyboarded as those were the ones we had the strongest opinion of how we wanted them to look and move.
